Like Kahoot? Try Quizizz!
Kahoot has taken schools by storm around the world in the past few years, and for good reason. The addicting quiz-style game that adults have been playing in adult establishments :-) for years was now (appropriately) available for students in the classroom.
Another game-based quiz software has caught my eye recently and it reminded my of Kahoot, although there are some distinct differences. Quizizz is similar to Kahoot in that teachers can create multiple choice questions restrained by time for students to answer. Other than that, Quizizz breaks from Kahoot in many ways. First, teachers can insert questions into a Quizizz from previous Quizizz quizzes...say that fast three times!
You may be wondering why the heck I am talking about memes- let me explain. Upon answering a question, a meme shows up on each student's screen, and it is tailored to the student's answer. If the student answers incorrectly, he or she might see a meme like this:
Another unique aspect of Quizizz is the ability to either play a game live, or to assign it to students as homework. This feature is quite powerful for obvious reasons, and sets this software apart.
Lastly, students are randomly assigned an avatar to start the game (see image to the right). This may not seem like a big deal, but little things like this can be the determining factor that gets kids to buy in to the game.
In conclusion, give Quizizz a try in your classroom, especially if your students have been overexposed to Kahoot. Also, consider assigning a Quizizz as homework, as I believe this feature is a hidden gem!
